Why love me?

"Mom, I'm a really good runner girl." says Mo. Her confidence boldly exemplified in each and every word.

"You are." I reply. "You are quite fast."

"I know." she continues. "I'm faster than Maeve, faster than all the kids in my class. I'm super fast".

"You are my love, yes you are". I respond.

Where did that self assurance go?

When did I become so self conscious about my weight? my intelligence? me?

I know I am not alone here.

I think this week Mrs. M from The Bonny Bard challenged us Listicle makers to create a list all about ourselves, a moment to brag, to shout from the mountains, to submit:

10 Reasons I Am Great

1. I can throw a good party.

2. My vast knowledge of random things often surprises those around me.

3. I am strong- literally and figuratively.

4. I hide behind the guise of adulthood, but have the humor level of a twelve year old boy.

5. My glass is half full.

6. I can parallel park a minivan with ease.

7. I grow, birth, and raise pretty damn awesome kids.

8. I make conversation easy.

9. I love fully, deeply, and completely.

10.  I remember...always.

I've got a challenge for you, dear reader.

I want you to think about yourself. Really take some time, and think about who you are, what you do, and why you love yourself?

Now share, put it out there.
Be it here, a journal, a facebook message.

Why are you great?

I dare you!

  1. Ditto on #6. If you can call my Mazda 5 a minivan, which I usually smack people upside the head for doing. But we'll let that slide this time. Good for you for rising to the challenge! I copped out a bit this week, but in my defense, I did write a list of things I'm good at a while ago, so I had to keep things fresh, right?

  2. I am a good problem solver. I like to explore all the angles and come up with what I think is the best solution. Parallel parking is a lost art.

  4. Amazing list! Loved it. And I too have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy. It makes life easier, doesn't it?

And since I didn't play it extremely straight in my own list, I will answer your challenge. I am extremely competent and trustworthy. And I never give up. Ellen

  5. After driving a minivan for a while we don't know how to handle small cars. I realize exactly how small they are lol. I think we all raise awesome kids. I totally hear you on the failure to give ourselves self affirmations for a lot of reasons. I had a hard time on this list as well, and on some wasn't quite so to the point lol..

  6. I think it's really important to recapture some of that confidence we had as children... I loved every single item on your list, you're all kinds of awesome!!

  7. Aw crap, I was feeling pretty good till I got to #6. I can barely park the van straight in a regular spot: parallel just ain't in the cards. I did it perfect for my driving test years ago -- and haven't managed a repeat since. LOL
I sound great singing the in the van though. so, there is that. :)

  8. What a fab list! I'm dependable and loyal. I know it sounds like I'm a dog but really they're good woman qualities I promise :)

  9. Twelve year old humor is what at times keeps life from shattering apart...at least for me. You ARE Great! And I agree...I listen to the things Lil Duck proudly announces that she is amazing at and I wonder when I stopped finding awe in the simple things in life. Taking the care of the cat properly is important. There are people who don't do that well...or at all...it hasn't died on me yet. :D
